Via has upgraded its 5.7 x 3.9 x 2.0-inch DIY PC with a 1GHz, dual-core Via Eden X2 processor. The Via Artigo A1150 includes up to 4GB of RAM, HDMI and VGA video outputs, gigabit Ethernet and optional Wi-Fi networking, plus an SATA port and five USB ports, the company says."

Zotac announced a mini-PC built around Via's 1.2GHz, dual-core Nano X2 U4025 processor. The 5 x 5 x 1.7-inch Zbox Nano VD01 includes 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth networking, HDMI and DisplayPort video outputs, 7:1 audio, an infrared remote and receiver, plus an available 2GB of RAM and 320GB of hard disk storage."

Core-powered panel PC is like a giant tablet
Aaeon announced an 18.5-inch panel PC that looks and works like an overgrown tablet. The ACP-5815 has a capacitive touchscreen with two-point multitouch, a choice of Intel Core i5 or i7 processors, CompactFlash and hard disk storage, a Mini PCI expansion slot, plus an optional camera and RFID reader, according to the company."

Acer's Ultrabook offers hybrid storage option
Acer announced the "Aspire S3", said to be just over half an inch thick, provide a startup time of as little as 1.5 seconds, and offer seven-hour battery life. Again similar to Apple's MacBook Air, this Ultrabook includes a Core processor and 13.3-inch display, but breaks the mold by being offered with both SSDs (solid state drives) and hybrid SSD/hard disk storage."

Ford shows off cloud-connected dream car
Ford announced that its Windows-powered "Sync" in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) system will come to Europe next year, following additions such as multiple languages, support for U.K. postcodes, and tweaks to cope with Autobahn speeds. The company is also previewing an "Evos" concept car that connects in-car systems to the cloud, retrieving information that includes a driver's personal schedule and musical preferences."

Laptop has dual screens, discrete graphics
An Alaskan company says it will soon ship a laptop computer that sports dual 17-inch displays, each with 1920 x 1080 pixels. Available in November, gScreen's "SpaceBook" comes with a Nvidia GTS 250M discrete graphics processing unit, a 500GB hard disk drive, a DVD drive, and a choice of Intel Core i5 or i7 processors."

Samsung tablet has Core processor, custom Windows interface
Samsung announced a Windows 7 tablet that should delight those who think current offerings are underpowered. The "Series 7 tablet" reportedly includes an 11.6-inch screen, choice of Intel Core i3 or i5 processors, 4GB of RAM, a 64GB or 128GB SSD (solid state disk), plus an optional Bluetooth keyboard and docking stand."

Mini PC is first with AMD's new E-450 processor
MSI will soon launch a compact PC that's the first to employ AMD's newly announced E-450 processor, a listing by a French retailer has revealed. The Wind Box DC100 will feature 2GB of RAM, a 320GB hard disk drive, a gigabit Ethernet port, six USB 2.0 ports, plus both VGA and HDMI video outputs, Rue du Commerce.com says."

Robotic vacuum runs Windows CE
Toshiba announced a robotic, Windows CE-based vacuum cleaner that uses an onboard camera to map out rooms and avoid obstacles. The "Smarbo" operates up to 90 minutes on a charge, automatically returns to its docking unit for charging, and includes both standard and "turbo" cleaning modes, the company says."

Axiomtek announced a digital signage computer that includes a 31.5-inch display and a choice of Celeron or Core 2 Duo processors. The DSA-132 features a removable CPU board, an available infrared touchscreen, a PCI Express x4 expansion slot, up to 2GB of DDR3 RAM, two speakers, and room for a SATA hard disk drive, the company says."

Italian tablet sports 11.6-inch screen
Italian vendor Ekoore announced two tablets that feature capacitive multitouch displays and run Windows 7 or Ubuntu Linux on Intel Atom processors. The 11.6-inch "Perl" offers a 1.66GHz Atom N450, while the "Python" features a 10.2-inch screen and an Atom N455, according to the company."

Nokia CEO Stephen Elop has shown off the company's first Windows Phone device, code-named "Sea Ray." Similar to the just-announced N9, complete with a eight megapixel camera, the device runs Windows Phone 7 "Mango" and has an added shutter release button."

Samsung announced a $400 netbook with a built-in solar panel and 14.5-hour battery life. The NC215S also offers hybrid fast start technology, the ability to charge portable devices even when it's turned off, a choice of Atom processors, and a 250GB or 320GB hard disk drive."

Tablet has 320GB hard drive, optional dock
U.S. pricing and availability have been cited for an unusual Windows tablet featuring a 320GB hard disk drive and an optional docking station. On sale next month for around $650, Gigabyte's S1080 features a 10.1-inch capacitive screen with 1024 x 600 pixel resolution, a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera, one USB 3.0 port and one USB 2.0 port, a VGA output, an SD slot, plus optional 3.5G cellular networking."
