"WINDOWS MOBILE BLOGGERS" WEBSITE FOCUSES ON MOBILE DEVCON 2004
Windows Mobile Bloggers is a new website that has just been launched,
with the initial goal of connecting everyone interested in the upcoming
Microsoft Mobile DevCon 2004 occurring in San Francisco, Calif. from
Mar. 23-27, 2004.

MICROSOFT DEVELOPER SECURITY WEBCAST WEEK -- FEB. 16-20
Microsoft is holding a series of developer security webcasts next week,
Feb. 16-20, on a broad range of newly emerging security issues of
interest to developers. Topics range from corporate security reviews and
computer crime to a webcasts designed to help developers write
applications that are resistant to security attacks.

MOBILE BROWSER GAINS ACCELERATED WEBPAGE-RENDERING TECHNOLOGY
Access announced the addition of a new, patent-pending rendering
technology to its mobile web browser, resulting in "dramatically faster"
speed of web page presentation on mobile devices. Access claims that
with "Rapid-Render," the Access NetFront web browser's download speeds
are up to six times faster than previous versions of NetFront.

ALL ABOUT THE C# DESIGN PROCESS
After 13 years with Borland, Anders Hejlsberg joined Microsoft in 1996,
where he initially worked as an architect of Visual J++ and the Windows
Foundation Classes (WFC). Then, Hejlsberg was chief designer of C# and a
key participant in the creation of the Microsoft .NET Framework. Today,
he leads the ongoing development of the C# programming language at

EMBLAZE SPOTLIGHTS MOBILE PROCESSOR SMARTPHONE APPS
Emblaze Semiconductor announced that it is developing a mobile phone/PDA
with integrated camera with Ningbo Bird, which has overtaken Motorola to
become China's largest manufacturer of cell phones. Emblaze says the
"advanced smartphone," which scheduled for mass production in 2004,
incorporates its ER4521 mobile multimedia processor.  Additionally,
Emblaze says its ER4521 processor serves as the core of its AlphaCell
division's M5 smartphone design, which is powered by Windows CE .NET.

EFFICEON PROCESSOR GAINS MICROSOFT WHQL SELF-TEST STATUS
Transmeta says its Efficeon TM8000 family of microprocessors has been
awarded the Microprocessor Self-test Certification by Microsoft's
Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL).  According to Transmeta, the
Microprocessor Self-test Certification status confirms that Efficeon
TM8000 CPUs are System Logo submission-ready and have already passed
compatibility and quality testing at Microsoft.

DISNEY LICENSES MICROSOFT DRM SOFTWARE
Microsoft and The Walt Disney Company announced an agreement that is
intended to make Disney movies and TV programming available in
high-quality digital format, and on a new generation of interconnected
TV sets, personal computers, and handheld devices (including the new
"Portable Media Centers").  As part of the agreement, Disney will
license Microsoft Windows Media Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology.

VIRTUAL KEYBOARD EXPANDS POCKET PCS
Ibiz Technology will showcase an innovative new "virtual laser keyboard"
for Pocket PCs next month at CeBIT in Germany. The device supports
handheld computers running Windows and Palm embedded operating systems.
A light-weight adapter attaches to the handheld system and projects the
image of a full-size keyboard onto a flat surface, making it easy to
input text without a physical keyboard.

PC/CE CONVERGENCE TO FOSTER $5.7B HOME NETWORKING MARKET
Developments in computing, consumer electronics, and networking are
combining to lead to an explosive new market that will enable audio and
video content to be transported around the home, reports In-Stat/MDR.
The development of whole new product categories such as media adaptors
and networked DVD players, in addition to the continued development of
networking protocols and technologies such as Ethernet, 802.11x, and
1394, are leading to a new era in home networking. Though barriers, such
as content protection, legacy products, and the need for consumer
education remain, the value of networking connectivity in connected CE
and PC devices will grow to nearly $5.7 billion by 2008.

ABI: RESIDENTIAL GATEWAY MARKET TO APPROACH $900M BY 2008
The market for networked home control devices is expected to reach $900M
by 2008, when 20 million units will ship, according to market research
key findings from ABI. As technology, connectivity, and automation
permeate the home, appliance makers will build in networking
capabilities, enabling their products to be controlled centrally from a
"residential gateway."

NOKIA TO GAIN CONTROLLING INTEREST IN SYMBIAN OS
Nokia announced this week that it is acquiring Psion's shares in the
Symbian embedded operating system.  Upon completion of the transaction,
Nokia estimates that its share in Symbian will increase to approximately
63.3% from the current 32.2%.  Nokia was the #1 worldwide supplier of
mobile handsets in 2003 at 33.6% market share, with Motorola holding the
#2 spot at 14.1%, according to market analyst IDC.  Symbian OS is a key
competitor for Microsoft's Windows Mobile for Smartphones OS.
