POCKET PC PHONE WINS "BEST CHOICE OF COMPUTEX TAIPEI" AWARD
Asus won a "Best Choice of Computex Taipei" award at the recent Computex
show in Taiwan for its P505 Pocket PC phone based on Microsoft's Windows
Mobile Software. The device is reportedly powered by a 520 MHz Intel
XScale processor, and offers GSM/GPRS communications, Bluetooth
wireless, a built-in 1.2 megapixel camera, and an MMC / SD Card
expansion slot.

"SUPER RUGGED" RFID COMPUTER RUNS XP EMBEDDED
InfoLogix has announced a wireless, ruggedized RFID computer in a
package "larger than a [PDA], but smaller than a laptop." The company
says its RFID SR Computer combines the functions of an RFID interrogator
with those of a ruggedized full function wireless-enabled computer. The
device supports a range of Microsoft operating systems, including
Windows XP Embedded.

LARGE U.S. CONVENIENCE STORE CHAIN SELECTS XP EMBEDDED POS
Speedway SuperAmerica, which claims to be one of the largest chains of
company-owned and operated convenience stores in the U.S., has selected
Windows XP Embedded powered point-of-sale (POS) systems from Radiant
Systems for its more than 1,700 stores.

WINDOWS MEDIA 9 TO GET CHIPS
STMicroelectronics and Microsoft are collaborating on a series of new
ICs for manufacturers of consumer devices incorporating Windows Media 9
Series playback technologies. The companies expect the new components to
extend the reach of high-quality, secure Windows Media 9 Series content
-- in both standard and high definition -- to products such as set-top
boxes, DVD players, digital video recorders (DVRs), and home-networking
devices.

MICROSOFT CONNECTED CAR NAMED "BEST TELEMATICS SOLUTION OF 2004"
Microsoft's Connected Car technology was named Best Telematics Solution
at Telematics Update Awards 2004, an event held in conjunction with
Telematics Detroit, the largest annual telematics conference. The
technology was recognized as "the industry's best end-to-end solution"
based on factors such as cost, quality, and functionality, according to
the judges.

ABI: STANDARDS GROUPS LEADING HOME AUTOMATION PUSH
The shape of the "digital home" of the near future is becoming steadily
clearer, according to a finding issued by market analyst ABI Research.
Traditionally the prerogative of the successful hip-hop producer or
sports star, home automation -- integrating media and entertainment with
communications and "smart" household appliances -- is nearly ready
for a wider market of upper middle-class households. According to ABI,
the biggest factors enabling this transition are firm commitments to
home automation from some of the world's largest technology companies,
both individually and as members of standards-setting organizations.

MICROSOFT RELEASES WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER 10 TECHNICAL BETA
Microsoft has announced that a technical beta release of Windows Media
Player 10 is available for download. Among the new and enhanced
features, the new release will support the new Portable Media Center
devices that will be available later this year.
