EMBEDDED DEVCON DETAILED AGENDA RELEASED
Microsoft has released the detailed daily agenda for the upcoming
Windows Embedded Developers' Conference in San Diego from June 28 to
July 1.  This is Microsoft's fourth annual Windows Embedded DevCon,
bringing developers face-to-face with the Windows Embedded development
team.  Our news item provides a general overview of the DevCon program,
and includes a link where you can download the detailed DevCon agenda
which includes session titles, presenter names, locations, and times.

WINDOWS CE DRIVES LARGE FORMAT PLOTTER
WDV GmbH, a European plotter manufacturer, used Windows CE as the
embedded operating system in its latest plotter, the Artist 8800-X.  The
high performance LED plotter uses DDC (Dot Density Control) technology,
which permits a highly uniform reproduction of shaded areas, images, and
extremely thin plot lines.  The plotter receives plot data from the
Internet using an Ethernet connection, or from local sources using USB.

scheduled on Microsoft's MSDN developer website.  Topics include the
.NET Compact Framework, Visual Studio .NET, Windows CE 5.0, Windows CE
5.0 device driver development, Windows XP Embedded, and Windows XP
Embedded SP2.  "Hear from the experts and bring your tough questions,"
says Microsoft.

RUGGED HANDHELDS RUN WINDOWS CE AND WINDOWS MOBILE
Symbol Technology recently introduced a pair of rugged handheld
computers to complement the MC9000-G introduced last year.  The MC9000-S
offers a compact, slimmer format than the MC9000-G, while the MC9000-K
provides a full-sized keypad format.  Target market segments include
field service, manufacturing, route accounting/DSD, transportation and

NEW SECURITY PATCH FOR WINDOWS XP EMBEDDED
Microsoft has released a security patch for Outlook Express that applies
to Windows XP Embedded with Service Pack 1.  It includes the
functionality of all the previously-released updates for Outlook Express
5.5 and Outlook Express 6, and eliminates a new vulnerability that could
allow an attacker to access files and take complete control of the
affected system.

RUGGED HANDHELD GARNERS GOVERNMENT TECHNOLOGY MAGAZINE AWARD
Tripod Data Systems was one of 16 recipients of the "2004 GTC Best
Solutions Showcase Award" presented by Government Technology magazine as
part of an annual GTC trade show.  The award recognizes the rugged
Pocket PC solution TDS provided to the U.S. Army's Chemical Stockpile
Emergency Preparedness Program (CSEPP) in Morrow County, Oregon.  CSEPP
uses TDS's Recon handheld computers to let emergency incident responders
share critical real-time information with a central operations station.
The device runs Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PCs.

WINDOWS XP EMBEDDED DELIVERS REAL-TIME VIDEO FOR IDAHO PUBLIC TV
Following extensive field trials, Idaho Public Television has selected
Streambox's Windows XP Embedded powered video transport system to
deliver digital television programming to Dish Network's aggregation
site.  Streambox's ACT-L3 Video Transport System encodes real-time
interlaced video at 30fps with automatic closed-captioning support, and
incorporates advanced error correction technology that is able to cancel
and recover large amounts of burst error loss from an unreliable public
network and deliver smooth video playback at low bit rates.

SPRINT CERTIFIES RUGGED VOICE/DATA HANDHELDS FOR PCS NETWORK
Sprint announced that it has certified two Windows Mobile based rugged
handheld computers from Symbol Technologies for use on the enhanced
Sprint Nationwide PCS Network.  The Symbol MC9000-K and MC9000-S are
said to be the first Sprint-certified rugged devices to offer both voice
and data services.

MICROSOFT OFFERS FREE MOBILE DEVELOPER RESOURCE KIT
Microsoft has announced availability of a free Mobile Developer Resource
Kit consisting of a DVD containing a tools and resources for developers
seeking knowledge about the company's latest platform advances for
mobile technologies.  Microsoft says the kit includes a wizard to help
developers new to Windows Mobile choose the tools and SDKs they need to
write applications, guidance on programs that help take applications to
market, and additional technical documentation to help as skills
develop.  Of interest to current Windows Mobile developers, the kit
contains the latest SDKs for Windows Mobile 2003, emulator images, and
content for developing Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition applications.

SOFTWARE ENCRYPTION PACKAGE FOR POCKET PC
Vadium Technology has released a software encryption application aimed
at handhelds running Microsoft's Pocket PC 2003 operating system.  The
package is the second of several products in a planned suite of secure
communication applications that will eventually include the ability to
encrypt and decrypt streaming voice communications.
