MICROSOFT ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF WINDOWS CE FEATURES SURVEY
Congratulations to the winners of the 2004 Windows CE Features Survey
sponsored by Microsoft's Embedded Devices Group. Microsoft selected the
five winners on the basis of their suggestions providing "the most
substantive contributions toward outlining possible features for future
releases of Windows CE."

ENTER XP EMBEDDED SURVEY, WIN A WINDOWS-POWERED WIRELESS ROUTER

GPS/GSM-ENABLED PDA RUNS WINDOWS CE
The Adcom Group has developed a Windows CE powered PDA equipped with GPS
positioning and GSM mobile phone technology. The "Emirate 1," which
will be manufactured and marketed in the United Arab Emirates (UAE),
will be based on one of Intel's new "Bulverde" XScale mobile processors,
running at speeds up to 500 MHz, and will offer integrated Bluetooth
wireless, along with SD Card and USB expansion.

MICROSOFT'S SHARED SOURCE COMMUNITY GROWS TO 1 MILLION
Microsoft announced this week that its Shared Source community has now
surpassed 1 million participants, including customers, governments,
partners, academics, and individuals. Microsoft first began sharing
Windows source code with academics in 1991, and in 2001 rolled out the
Shared Source Initiative as a means to formalize a broader program of
source code sharing including development and infrastructure
technologies, most of which are licensed to allow developers to see,
modify, and redistribute changes to the source code. Currently Windows
2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows CE 3.0, Windows CE .NET,
the C#/CLI Implementations, as well as components of ASP.NET and Visual
Studio .NET have source code available through the Shared Source
Initiative.

FLAT PANEL POS TERMINAL BOASTS XP EMBEDDED SUPPORT
Radiant Systems unveiled a compact "retail-hardened" point-of-sale (POS)
terminal aimed at the cinema industry and other retail environments.
Based on Microsoft's Windows XP Embedded software platform, Radiant says
its new POS terminal offers theater operators a high-performance
solution with a small footprint and a very cost-effective price.

EMI MUSIC, NAPSTER SIGN ON TO MICROSOFT'S PORTABLE MEDIA CENTERS
Microsoft announced this week that EMI Music and Napster will support
its Windows Mobile based Portable Media Centers (PMCs). Microsoft also
revealed that hardware manufacturers Creative Technology and iRiver
International plan to ship the devices by the end of 2004. PMCs are a
new category of portable device meant to enable users to take digital
media content from their Windows XP PCs with them and enjoy them
wherever they go. Multimedia content types initially supported will
include digital music and videos, digitally recorded television shows,
and digital photos.

WINDOWS MOBILE APP CONTEST OFFERS FOUR $25,000 GRAND PRIZES
Microsoft has kicked off its first "Mobile2Market Application Contest"
for Windows Mobile applications. Microsoft is inviting developers to
submit their "best" applications for Windows Mobile based Pocket PCs and
Smartphones to the contest, for a chance to win one of four $25,000
grand prizes plus distribution of their application. In addition, 20
contest "finalists" will receive featured promotions.

TESTING NDIS MINIPORT DRIVERS USING THE WINDOWS CE .NET TEST KIT
This technical whitepaper provides step-by-step instructions on how to
test network driver interface specification (NDIS) miniport drivers
using the Windows CE .NET Test Kit (CETK). The article explains how to
run a one-card test, a two-card test, and a two-card NDIS miniport test
on two computers using the CETK, and discusses two main scenarios:
onboard and detachable peripheral devices.
