X86-BASED HANDHELD GAME CONSOLE RUNS XP EMBEDDED
Via Technologies has teamed up with Ministry of Mobile Affairs (MoMA --
no, it's not a government agency) to build a handheld game console based
on Windows XP Embedded that runs existing PC games.  Described as the
world's first handheld gaming device based on the x86 architecture, the
Eve Mobile Gaming Console is said to be capable of instantly running
thousands of existing PC games.

SMART CAMERA RUNS WINDOWS CE .NET
Matrox Imaging's Iris P-Series smart camera combines the features of a
state-of-the-art smart video camera with the flexibility of a
traditional PC-based machine vision system.  Based on an Intel Celeron
processor running Windows CE .NET, the fully programmable device can be
extensively customized by OEMs and integrators to meet the needs of
their specific vertical markets and applications, according to Matrox.

POINT OF PURCHASE DISPLAY RUNS WINDOWS EMBEDDED
If you've seen either of the sci-fi films Blade Runner or Minority
Report, you've seen the future of "point of purchase" (POP) media --
tailored, dynamic messages employing electronic digital image content
that change by time and location.  gondolaPlay is a POP media display
engine developed for the UK retail market by Screenplay Communications
Ltd., in partnership with Blue Chip Technology.

RUGGEDIZED VEHICLE-MOUNT PC RUNS WINDOWS XP EMBEDDED
PSC Inc. has announced the Falcon 4620, a ruggedized vehicle-mount
computer intended for use in harsh industrial and field environments,
including temperatures as low as -30 degrees C. The device is based on
an 800 MHz Via C3 processor running Microsoft's Windows XP Embedded
operating system, and it targets applications in retail, warehousing,
and supply chain management.

RUGGED HANDHELD BASED ON WINDOWS CE EXCEEDS MIL SPECS
Claimed to be the "world's most rugged, advanced wireless handheld," the
GoBook Q-200 from Itronix runs Windows CE .NET and supports up to three
wireless networks concurrently. Based on a 400 MHz Intel XScale
processor, the unit boasts a wide range of wired and wireless
communication options and is aimed at mobile professionals who work in
mission-critical environments such as field service and repair,
inspection and service, public safety, telecommunications, utilities,
insurance and federal and military environments.

TABLET PC SPORTS 10-INCH SCREEN, RUNS WINDOWS CE
Elanza calls its Windows CE based Webpad an "incremental mobile device
in the enterprise, complementing laptop PCs, Pocket PCs and Smart Phones
rather than replacing them."  The slate-style tablet is built around a
10.4-inch, 800x600 resolution LCD screen with a resistive touch pad.
Wireless options include 802.11b, Bluetooth and, infrared. The Webpad is
intended primarily for "non-traditional office environments" where
workers are often on the move in the course of their job.

LOW-COST, HIGH-INTEGRATION ARM9 PROCESSOR RUNS WINDOWS CE
Cirrus Logic is supporting Windows CE on a new low-cost, highly
integrated processor based on the ARM9 architecture.  The new EP9302
chip targets point-of-sale terminals, medical instrumentation, security
and surveillance, process monitoring, and digital entertainment.  The
processor runs at 200 MHz and includes a single- and double-precision
integer and floating-point math engine.

DELL'S NEW POCKET PC LINE BOASTS DUAL WIRELESS, FASTEST CPU
Dell has introduced a trio of new handheld computers based on Intel's
latest (and fastest) XScale processors, Microsoft's latest Windows
Mobile 2003 software, and dual-wireless technology. The new Axim X30
series is offered in three versions -- two with a combo of Bluetooth
+ Wi-Fi (802.11b) wireless; and the third, a lower cost non-wireless model.

LET POCKET PC PUT YOU IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT
The Hertz Corp. and IBM Global Services have equipped drivers of 600
Hertz airport rental car Courtesy Buses, on more than 50 routes across
the U.S., with wireless-enabled Pocket PCs made by Intermec.  The
handhelds allow the drivers to alert personnel at the #1 Club Gold booth
that the customer is en route, instantly transmitting customer arrival
data over the AT&T Wireless high-speed data network.

OpenNETCF.org has announced the release of version 1.1 of their Smart
Device Framework, a shared source software library for Microsoft .NET
Compact Framework application developers.

COLDFIRE GAINS MMU -- WINDOWS CE SUPPORT NEXT?
Motorola's semiconductor subsidiary, Freescale Semiconductor, unveiled
the first CPUs in its venerable ColdFire microprocessor family to have
on-chip memory management units (MMUs).  As a result, the ColdFire
embedded processors -- popular in a wide range of control, automation,
and instrumentation applications -- can now be considered candidate
platforms for Microsoft's Windows CE .NET embedded operating system for
the first time.
