CE .NET POWERED MOBILE ENTERTAINMENT GADGET ENTERTAINS, TRACKS KIDS
Tiger Telematics's Gametrac Europe Ltd. subsidiary has selected
Intrinsyc Software to provide application development and Windows CE
.NET integration services for Gametrac's advanced series of "Gametrac"
handheld gaming devices. According to Gametrac, the device will deliver
a unique combination of lifestyle content targeted specifically at
youths and teenagers. Additionally, based on its built-in GPS tracker
sensor, the gaming gadget will also offer parents the ability to know
where their children are at all times.

FUJITSU LABS PDA PROTOTYPE BOASTS 4-INCH SVGA DISPLAY
Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. announced that it has created a concept
prototype of a pocket-sized information terminal with a 4-inch SVGA
(800×600 pixel) color LCD display and built-in wireless capabilities.
The device -- called the ".U Pocket" -- is powered by a 400 MHz Intel
PXA255 XScale processor running Microsoft's Windows CE .NET operating
system, sources say.

SAMSUNG I600 SMARTPHONE HITS US MARKET
Verizon Wireless announced the exclusive availability in the U.S. this
week of Samsung's SCH-i600 Smartphone -- the first Samsung mobile phone
based on Microsoft's Windows Mobile software, and the second Windows
Mobile based smartphone to arrive in the U.S. The i600 is a
clamshell-style device with a bright, full-color display that combines
cell phone and PDA features.

XP EMBEDDED GAINS INSTANT-ON SUPPORT
Venturcom has announced a software package that enables Windows XP
Embedded based embedded systems and devices to instantly power up to a
predetermined state and configuration, regardless of the system's
condition when powered off.

VS .NET 2003 ADD-ON PACK ENHANCES CE DEVICE CONNECTIVITY
Visual Studio .NET 2003 is intended to make deploying and debugging
applications easy on Pocket PC and other devices running Windows CE 4.1
and later. However, Visual Studio is unable to connect to devices
running Windows CE that do not have an ActiveSync connection and cannot
dynamically determine the CPU on non-Pocket PC devices. To address these
issues, Microsoft has released an add-on pack for VS .NET that enables
Visual Studio to connect, deploy, and debug devices running Windows CE
4.1 or later.

BETA PROGRAM FOR .NET COMPACT FRAMEWORK 1.0 SP2
The Microsoft .NET Compact Framework product team is kicking off a beta
program for .NET Compact Framework 1.0 SP2, and is inviting developers
to participate. They say they are specifically looking for feedback as
to whether existing application functionality is preserved when running
against SP2 bits (no regressions).

MICROSOFT RELEASES QUARTERLY "QFE" UPDATE PACKS FOR WINDOWS CE
A quarterly "Quick Fix Engineering" (QFE) update packages for Windows CE
.NET 4.x are now available from Microsoft. QFE is a Microsoft term for
the delivery of individual service updates to certain products.
Periodically, the QFEs are collected into a service pack to make it more
convenient to download and install than individual QFEs. Microsoft says:
"For best results, you should always have every available QFE or service
pack installed."
