WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WINDOWS CE AND POCKET PC?
Ever wonder what the difference is between Windows CE and Pocket PC? If

POCKET PC SUMMIT TO SPOTLIGHT SMART MOBILE DEVICES AND SOLUTIONS
The fourth two-day Pocket PC Summit will take place along side the
upcoming CTIA Wireless I.T. & Entertainment show in Las Vegas, Nevada,
October 20-23, 2003. According to summit organizers, the conference will
tackle issues relevant to the development and deployment of smart mobile
devices and solutions, and will feature a keynote address by Chris Hill,
group product manager of the Mobile Devices Division of Microsoft.

CE .NET POWERS PATIENT-FRIENDLY HOSPITAL ITV SYSTEM
TeleHealth Services has unveiled TigrNet, a system that enables hospital
patients to access the Internet, send and receive email, select
entertainment programs, order meals, and provide real-time feedback via
their bedside TV set. TigrNet marks a significant advancement in
hospital interactive TV (iTV), because it leverages the hospital's
existing TV platform to provide an array of computer-based programs
employing Microsoft's Windows CE .NET operating system, the company said.

HANDHELD DATA TERMINAL FEATURES 802.11G/B, BLUETOOTH, CE .NET
Intermec Technologies announced a new handheld data collection terminal,
the CK30, that comes with a built-in 802.11b/g radio for 54 Mbps data
transfers, integrated Bluetooth for wireless printing, and various
imaging and color display options.

WINDOWS EMBEDDED POWERS ENTERPRISE FAX SERVER
Castelle announced the release of FaxPress Premier, a new generation of
enterprise fax servers that are powered by Microsoft Windows Embedded
software. The company describes FaxPress Premier as a patent-pending
technology that offers an advanced level of network fax capabilities
including integrated file storage, embedded email gateways, and a secure
Web interface.

WINDOWS-POWERED VEHICLE-MOUNT TERMINAL BOASTS BLUETOOTH PLUS WI-FI
Intermec Technologies Corp. introduced one of the first rugged,
vehicle-mount terminals to integrate both Bluetooth technology and a
wireless base station. Intermec says the integration eliminates the need
for an external base station to communicate with wireless scanners,
simplifies installation, reduces lifetime cost of ownership, and
provides a safer and less cluttered workspace for vehicle operators.

PVR AND VOD JOIN FORCES TO REDEFINE FUTURE OF TV
Video on demand (VOD) and personal video recording (PVR), the two
non-linear video viewing models, will redefine the future of the
television experience, according to a new study from technology research
firm ABI.  Presently, PVR might may be the weapon of choice for direct
broadcast satellite (DBS) operators, while VOD is favored by cable
multi-system operators (MSOs). All pay-TV platforms, including the
budding "Telco TV," will rely heavily on the non-linear aspect and
convenience of these two technologies.

NEXT-GEN PCMCIA: "THINNER, FASTER, LIGHTER"
The PCMCIA trade association rolled out version 1.0 of its
next-generation standard for modular mobile and desktop computer
expansion at last week's Intel Developer Forum in San Jose, CA.
ExpressCard achieves its space reduction by replacing the legacy
parallel buses of the first and second generation PCMCIA card standards
with state-of-the-art, high-speed serial connections, following a trend
common in current computer system design.

MILLIONS OF ACCESS POINTS REQUIRED TO MEET SURGING WI-FI DEMAND
According to market research firm ABI, the Wi-Fi hotspot industry
continues to experience tremendous growth, aided by lower pricing points
and standardization of technology.  ABI believes this growth will
continue to accelerate, as companies and consumers adopt usage of the
technology at a faster pace. One of the key beneficiaries of this growth
is Wi-Fi access point suppliers, with shipments to hotspots growing
about 50% on a compound basis to 2008.  This growth, however, is not
without its pitfalls.
