Rugged vehicle-mount computers run Windows CE, XPe

Intelligent Instrumentation has added a series of a vehicle-mount terminals to its line of rugged terminals that run Windows CE 4.2 and Windows XP Embedded. The LANpoint XL series are compact, "full-screen" computers that target manufacturing and warehousing data collection applications, according to the company.

The LANpoint XL terminals are based on either 400 MHz or 733 MHz Via C3 Eden processors and are equipped with 128 to 512 MB of RAM memory. Storage is provided by 128 MB to 2 GB of CompactFlash. The devices' color touch-screen displays are available in either 10.4- or 12.1-inch sizes, with choices of either 300 or 400 nit brightness and 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768 resolutions.

The company lists the following key features and specifications for the LANpoint XL series terminals:

Processor -- Via C Eden, at 400 or 733 MHz
RAM memory -- 128 to 512 MB RAM
Flash memory for storage -- 128 MB to 2 GB CompactFlash
Display:
- choice of 10.4- or 12.1-inch color LCD with analog resistive touchscreen
- choice of 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768 resolution
Wireless -- 802.11b WiFi using Cisco 350 Series RF Wireless cards with either an internal or externally mounted antenna
Other I/O ports:
- 10/100 BaseT RJ45 Ethernet
- 2 USB 1.1
- 2 RS232 -- can be ordered with pin 9 configured as +5VDC or +12VDC, to power scanners or other accessories
- PS/2 keyboard and mouse
Expansion:
- 32-bit PCI card slot, Rev. 2.2 compatible for ultra short card
- Cardbus slot for Type I/II PCMCIA cards
Operating system:
- Windows CE 4.2 is standard
- Windows XP Embedded is available as an option
Power -- 12, 24, or 48 VDC to accommodate various vehicle power systems
Environmental:
- Protective class -- IP54 / NEMA 12, IP65 / NEMA 4 optional
- Operating temperature:
  - 32 to +122 degrees F (0 to +50 degrees C)
  - -22 to +122 degrees F (-30 to +50 degrees C) with heating option
- Shock and vibration -- Class 7M3 according to EN 60721-3 (1995)

The LANpoint XL is available now with a base price of $5,520.
