Intrinsyc launches series of Windows Embedded development kits
Sep. 02, 2005

Intrinsyc Software's Mobile and Embedded Solutions (MES) group has launched a family of new products targeting device developers using Windows Mobile and Windows CE. The new products, which include board support packages (BSP), related tools, and services, are intended to help bridge between the embedded OS and the device hardware, according to the company.

The new Windows Embedded kits include:
  • Windows Mobile and Windows CE BSP kits -- Intrinsyc says its Windows Mobile and Windows CE BSP kits can help reduce project risk and time-to-market by providing critical features as they become needed over the course of the development cycle. Intrinsyc says it interacts with each BSP kit customer to provide project-specific BSPs in three stages -- Core BSP, Preliminary BSP, and Feature Complete BSP. BSP Reports identify potential product integration and hardware issues, in order that they may be addressed early in the development process, the company says.

  • Power Management Kit -- The Power Management Kit aims to provide an understanding of a device's actual power consumption early in the development cycle, according to Intrinsyc. As part of this process, the company provides a Power Management Assessment Report that analyzes the device's power consumption characteristics and offers "actionable recommendations" for improving power consumption. The assessment report includes a list of device and system drivers that are recommended to be enhanced with power management capabilities.

  • Windows Mobile Quality Assurance Kits -- Intrinsyc says its suite of Windows Mobile Quality Assurance Kits can identify key design issues up-front, resulting in early Windows CE Test Kit and Windows Logo Test Kit compliance. Components of the quality assurance suite include:

    • Use Case Analysis & Assessment -- analyzes a device's use cases against its hardware, BSP, and software design requirements

    • Windows Mobile 5 BSP Test -- a suite of tests created for a specific device and run against its BSP and hardware platform

    • Windows Mobile CETK Test Report -- based on approved and available Windows Mobile CE (CETK) tests pertinent to a specific device

    • Windows Mobile LTK Readiness -- provides pre-certification for official logo testing at the National Software Testing Labs
Intrinsyc says it offers its new kits at fixed prices, with additional services available as needed.
