Windows tablet PCs integrate readers, scanners, cameras
Nov. 26, 2007

DT Research has started shipping two tablet PCs that run Windows CE, Windows XP Embedded, or Windows XP Tablet PC Edition. The AMD Geode based WebDT 310 and WebDT 360 are optionally available with magnetic stripe readers, barcode scanners, and/or cameras, DT Research says.

Apart from differing case designs and display sizes, the WebDT 310 (pictured above) and WebDT 360 (seen below) are technically similar. Both use an AMD Geode LX800 processor clocked at 500MHz, plus the choice of either a 40GB hard disk drive or 32GB solid state disk (SDD).

Both devices come with either 256MB, 512MB, or 1GB of RAM, and can also include from 64MB to 8GB of flash memory. Claimed to be more reliable and secure than laptop computers, the WebDT 310 and WebDT 360 offer fanless operation and integral fingerprint readers, according to DT Research.

The slightly larger WebDT 310 has a 10.4-inch, XGA (1024 x 768) touchscreen display available in regular or optional "outdoor viewable" versions. The WebDT 360 downsizes to an 8.4-inch, 800 x 600 touchscreen display, but in return provides added ruggedness, sustaining drops of up to four feet, according to the company.
