Thin client notebook runs Windows XP Embedded

UK-based Xeratus Consulting has introduced a portable, notebook-style thin client terminal based on standard Dell hardware and running Windows XP Embedded SP2. The Xnote substitutes CompactFlash for the hard drive normally found in Dell notebooks.

Xeratus says the Xnote is a Dell Inspiron 1300 notebook, available in the United Kingdom but not in the US. Key hardware specifications include:

Processor -- Intel Celeron M 360
System memory -- 256 MB DDR2 standard, 1280 MB max
Display:
- 14.1 inch WXGA (1280 x 800) screen
- Intel 900 GMA graphics with up to 128 MB shared video memory
Media bay -- 8x DVD/CD-RW combination drive (or optional 8x DVD+/-RW
Storage memory -- 256 MB Datasafe flash drive
Input/output ports:
- 10/100 Ethernet, RJ45 connector
- V.92 modem, RJ11 connector
- 3 USB 2.0
- 802.11b WLAN in mini-PCI slot
- IrDA
- Audio -- Mic in, line out
- 15-pin VGA connector
Expansion:
- PCMCIA slot
- Mini-PCI slot

Citrix ICA Client
Microsoft RDP

While Xeratus did not disclose pricing, a standard Dell Inspiron 1300 starts at GBP 299. The unit is backed by Dell's on-site 3-year warranty, according to Xeratus.
