Mar. 13, 2008
Computer Lab International (CLI) has announced a new thin client that runs Windows XP Embedded (XPe) on a 1GHz Via C7 Eden processor. The ST6500x features dual-monitor support, gigabit Ethernet, optional 802.11b/g wireless, up to 2GB of flash storage, and several downloadable firmware options.

CLI offers several pre-built firmware images for the ST6500x. One image targets kiosk operation. Others add local applications that include the IE7 browser, Firefox, Sun's Java JVM/JRE, and Microsoft Office viewers. The images can be installed via FTP, HTTP, a USB stick, or an included, network-based SNMPAdm utility, CLI said.
Supported server OSes reportedly include Windows Server 2008, Server 2003, Windows 2000 Server, and Windows NT 4.0, Terminal Server Edition. Supported network computing protocols include Microsoft's RDP (remote desktop protocol) 5.5 and 6.5, and Citrix's ICA (independent computing architecture) 10. Additionally, the thin client is compatible with VMWare VDI (virtual desktop infrastructure) connection brokers, the vendor said.
