Dell has added a pair of new Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PCs to its Axim family. The Axim X51 has a conventional 3.5-inch QVGA display, while the X51v is equipped with a full VGA 3.7-inch display. They're available with processors clocked at up to 624 MHz.

The X51 and X51v are both powered by Intel PXA270 processors, with a choice of clock rates ranging from 416 to 624 MHz. The devices come with 64 MB of SDRAM and either 128 or 256 MB of Flash. Expansion slots are included for both CompactFlash and SD cards.

Both models feature integrated Bluetooth connectivity as well as a headset connection that supports voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) and voice recognition applications. 802.11 WiFi is standard on the X51v and optional on the X51.

The X51 and X51v support AC97 audio with full-duplex record and playback of 16-bit stereo sound, using either the built-in microphone and speaker or headphone/headset connection.

An optional "presentation bundle" for the X51v allows connecting the device to an external VGA display or projector.

Application software includes Windows Media Player 10 Mobile and the new Office Mobile suite, including Word Mobile, Excel Mobile, and the latest PowerPoint Mobile. Also included are Internet Explorer, Outlook 2002 and ActiveSync 4.0.
