 Trijay has released a handheld computer that runs Windows CE and targets identity verification applications. The ST4EXLE features a digital camera, fingerprint reader, RFID, a smart card reader, a GSM cellular modem, and three SAM (secure acess module) slots, according to the company.
The ST4EXLE's stated mission in life is checking the identification of personnel in any secured-access area. To that end, it includes a fingerprint reader, an RFID reader, and a slot for inserting smart card-based IDs. The unit also snaps identity photos with its flash-equipped digital camera (pixel count not specified).

The device runs Windows CE 5.0 on a Marvell PXA520 processor. It comes with a 3.5-inch touchscreen QVGA (320 x 240) display, 128MB of RAM, and 128MB of flash storage. A wide range of built-in wireless interfaces includes 802.11b/g wireless local area networking, Bluetooth 1.2, IrDA infrared, and a quad-band (850, 900, 1800, 1900MHz) GSM/GPRS cellular modem.
Under a removable cover, the ST4EXLE packs dual 1200mAH lithium-polymer battery packs, claimed to provide up to 4.5 hours of battery life. There's also a GSM SIM slot, and three SAM slots. The latter are identical in appearance to SIM slots, but are intended to store cryptographic keys.
The ST4EXLE also includes a more typical SD slot, plus USB 1.1 and RS232 ports. The device is designed for outdoor use in demanding situations, and can withstand being dropped three feet onto concrete, according to Trijay.
