| PND features PiP D-TV |
Jun. 10, 2008
ThinkNavi has introduced a Windows CE 5.0-based portable navigation device (PND) that boasts a seven-inch display. The "T7" features "seamless" maps of Europe, a database of all EU speed cameras, A/V playback, and an integrated TV receiver with picture-in-picture (PiP) functionality.

The ThinkNavi T7's most notable feature is its 7-inch touchscreen display, larger than average for a PND. The 800 x 480 screen is flanked by six buttons; the three on the left control power plus volume up/down, while the three on the right include TV channel up/down and a "multitasking" key that apparently switches between GPS and portable media player (PMP) modes.
The ThinkNavi T7 has large buttons, a "motorway" mode, and a database of "safety cameras" (Click any of the screens to enlarge) As the above screenshots show, the T7 features "large and easy" buttons (left), a special motorway mode (middle), and a database of European "safety cameras" (i.e., speedtraps). The included maps allow drivers to roam seamlessly between 45 different EU countries, according to Think Navi.
The ThinkNavi T7 can show TV on part of its screen Another feature, hopefully only intended for use by a passenger or when a vehicle is stationary, is a picture-in-picture mode that puts live television on part of the screen (see above). The window relays video from the T7's integral DVB-T receiver, or from a DVD player via the device's external video input.
The T7 is said to be compatible with video playback in MPEG-4, WMV, and AVI file formats, and it shows still BMP and JPEG images. It also plays .MP3, .WAV, and .OGG audio files, and can be used as an e-book reader with .TXT files.
The ThinkNavi T7 uses RMI's MIPS-based Alchemy AU1250 processor, clocked here at 500MHz. In addition to 128MB of RAM and 64MB of flash storage, it has a SD slot for adding maps or media files.
The device has dual speakers with 1.5 Watts of amplification per channel, and its media playback functions may be operated via an infrared remote control. However, the T7 apparently lacks Bluetooth, and is not designed to provide a hands-free or other interface for the operation of a mobile phone.
