Trio of x86 SBCs targets Windows Embedded

Lippert Embedded Computers recently released three new single-board computers (SBC) with support for both Windows CE and Windows XP Embedded. One is an EPIC format SBC based on Pentium/Celeron M processors, while the other two are PC/104-Plus modules supporting a choice of Pentium M or Geode LX800 processors.

Hurricane-PM EPIC SBC

The Hurricane-PM (shown above) accommodates a range of Celeron M and Pentium M processors, supporting clock rates from 600 MHz to 1.8 GHz, and accommodates up to 1 GB of DDR333-SODIMM RAM. According to Lippert, with proper system design, this SBC does not require active cooling -- a passive heatsink suffices.

Additional features and specifications cited by Lippert include:

- integrated graphics controller, 64 MB graphic mamory
- CRT -- 2048 x 1536
- LVDS -- dual channel, 24-bit, 1600 x 1200
Storage:
- IDE ATA100
- uDiskOnChip using USB
I/O ports:
- 2 100/10 BaseT Ethernet
- 6 USB 2.0 Host
- 2 serial -- RS232/RS422/RS485
- AC97 Sound
- PS/2 keyboard and mouse
Expansion -- PC/104-Plus ISA and PCI buses
Power -- 5V DC @ 20 to 35 watts, depending on processor

This PC/104-Plus module has essentially the same technical specifications listed above for the Hurricane-PM EPIC SBC. The exceptions are: one 10/100 Ethernet port, instead of two; and no support for uDiskOnChip flash. Additionally, power consumption is a little less, ranging from 16 to 33 watts, depending on processor.

Cool Roadrunner-PM

This PC/104-Plus processor module is the successor to the Cool Roadrunner II, which has been discontinued due to RoHS considerations, according to Lippert. It's based on an AMD Geode LX800@0.9W processor clocked at 500 MHz, and accommodates up to 1 GB of DDR SDRAM. Power consumption is around 6.5 watts.

- 4 PWM outputs
- 4 8-bit analog inputs
Expansion -- PC/104-Plus ISA and PCI buses

The Cool Roadrunner-LX800 is available from stock. The Cool Roadrunner-PM and Hurricane-PM are expected to ship in the second quarter, according to Lippert. Pricing was not disclosed.
