Intrinsyc unveils telephony software for wireless handhelds

Intrinsyc Software announced telephony software that can be embedded in wireless devices based on Microsoft's Windows CE .NET and Windows Mobile software for Pocket PC OSes. Intrinsyc says its "MicroPhone" telephony software offers a highly portable, customizable solution that allows OEMs to create devices with custom telephony functions and provide integrated voice and data capabilities with superior usability.

According to Intrinsyc, MicroPhone tightly integrates a device's voice/data wireless modem capabilities with the core OS functionality of Windows CE .NET or Windows Mobile, and provides powerful options to customize the user interface, embed unique value-added applications, and support an extensive list of wireless modems, while maintaining a small footprint. Key features of MicroPhone are said to include:

Enables complete customization of the device's user interface. Through the use of background bitmaps and XML-based skins, customized interface design and product branding quickly become a simple task. This allows OEMs to deliver a product with a unique look and feel and provides wireless carriers with the ability to create and offer a variety of unique, downloadable end-user skins and interfaces.
Provides off-the-shelf value-added telephony applications. Based on Intrinsyc's experience in integrating wireless modems with device OS and processor functionality, MicroPhone contains several applications including:
- Voice Dialer application
- Phone Status Monitor
- Log Viewer (voice, data and text messages)
- Configuration Control Panel Applets
- Short Messaging Service (SMS) Manager
Supports a wide range of industry standard modems. Plug-in phone driver modules offer support for a range of GSM/GPRS and HSCSD modems with extendable options for many more.
Ensures a footprint size that is right for handheld devices. Maintaining a small code size for constrained devices is a key issue when building wireless handhelds - MicroPhone was designed to provide powerful and configurable functionality with only a 1.6 MB footprint.
