| Windows Mobile app fakes phone calls |

Trinket Software announced a free beta of Windows Mobile software that allows users to "call themselves" in order to escape meetings, dates, or other unwanted social situations. "Fake Call" can schedule "calls" in advance or generate them with a single button press, the company claims.

While pretending to receive a phone call is possible to perform on Windows Mobile devices without any special software, it "usually takes too many awkward key presses and fumbling," says Trinket. Fake Call, in contrast, can trigger a call using just one button, according to the company.
In addition, the application is said to be able to schedule calls in five minutes, "a little longer," or at a precisely specified time, as shown in the screenshot above. Users employ their existing contacts database to select a "caller," whose name and phone number appear onscreen when the phone rings. For convincing results, Fake Call employs a phone's default ringtone and other profile settings, adds Trinket.
Fake Call can simulate calls from Bill Gates and other celebrities For added fun, the company suggests, users can add celebrities, with photographs, to their contacts database, then have them "call." For example, it's possible to simulate calls from Bill Gates, as shown above. Or, says Trinket, "schedule a call from [Presidential candidates] Obama or McCain, then find an excuse to give your phone to a friend. When 'Obama' or 'McCain' call, just say 'I gotta take this.'"
Trinket Software says Fake Call is "optimized for Windows Mobile using C++ code, [so it] does its job and gets out of your way quickly." The application runs on all Windows Mobile 5, 6, and 6.1 devices, whether they have touchscreens or not, the company adds.
Further information
Fake Call is currently available as a free beta from the company's website, here. A final release is scheduled by the end of October, but the company did not say whether the application will continue to be free.
Trinket Software currently sells PowerSMS, a $10 Windows Mobile application that is said to allow quickly sending yourself an SMS message as a "to do" reminder, sending scheduled SMS messages, and automatically responding to missed phonecalls with texts that let a caller know when you can respond.
