Windows Mobile 6 phone packs dual SIMs

General Mobile has announced a Windows Mobile 6-based phone with dual SIM slots, Bluetooth, a two megapixel camera, and a 2.8-inch QVGA display. The DSTW1's dual slots allow the use of two different numbers or even carriers, the company says.

The unusual dual-SIM capability is the DSTW1's distinguishing feature. The device's calling button (seen on the left in the photo above) allows choosing which SIM will be employed when making a call.

As noted, one of the SIM slots supports quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900MHz), while the other offers tri-band GSM (900/1800/1900MHz). Both slots support EDGE mode for data transmission. Like other Windows Mobile 6 devices, the DSTW1 offers Internet Explorer-based web browsing and push email.

The DSTW1 uses a TI OMAP850 clocked at 200MHz, and attached to 64MB of RAM and 256MB of flash. The device apparently also includes another processor to manage the second SIM. The second processor is supplied by NXP, but General Mobile did not name the part or provide any further details.

The phone has a 2.8-inch touchscreen display with 320 x 240 resolution. It also includes Bluetooth, a two megapixel camera, and a microSD slot for adding storage. Battery life is quoted at four hours talk time, 150 hours standby.

Finally, the DSTW1 includes OCR software that scans business cards with the device's camera, then converts text into vCard format for importation into Outlook, the company says. Also bundled is PC sync software that can selectively back up contacts and other information from either of the SIM cards.
