Opticon Mobility Solutions has announced two new Windows Mobile-based phones that include integrated 1D/2D barcode scanners. The H16 and H19 are compatible with the AT&T cellular network, offering 400MHz processors, miniSD expansion, quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity, WiFi, and Bluetooth, according to the company.

Opticon's H16 and H19 are apparently designed for users who mostly want a phone, but would like to do a little discreet barcode scanning on the side. Though "ruggedized," they resemble ordinary mobile phones, yet both include barcode scanners that are said to be compatible with both 1D and 2D symbologies. Their 650nm laser-diode scanners are rated as being capable of 100 scans per second, with a depth of field from approximately two inches to 26 inches, depending on required resolution.
Both the H16 and H19 use a Samsung S3C2440A CPU, and both include 64MB of RAM. The H16, however, includes 128MB of RAM, whereas the H19 ups this to 512MB. Both devices also offer miniSD slots for storage expansion, 2.5mm jacks for headsets, and mini-USB ports.

The H16 (left), which runs Windows Mobile 5.0, has a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and a 2.5-inch touchscreen display. The H19 (right) has a 2.8-inch touchscreen display and a standard numeric keypad.
Regarding wireless capabilities, both devices include quad-band (850/900/1800/1900MHz) GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity. The H16 was recently certified by AT&T for use with its network, and the H19 soon will be, the company claims. Both devices also offer WiFi and Bluetooth. Unique to the H19, however, is its GPS receiver, employing the well-known SIRF starIII chipset.
