Temp-resistant data terminal runs Windows

German industrial computer manufacturer Solcon Systemtechnik has released a highly customizable PC for Windows CE or XP Embedded. The touchscreen-equipped Unidat 6.5-inch Terminal offers options including IP67 protection against dust and water, and resistance to temperatures ranging from -22 to 158 degrees F.

The Unidat 6.5 comes standard with 400- to 650MHz RISC or CISC CPUs of undisclosed origin, but can also be ordered with CPUs clocked up to 1.5GHz performance, says Solcon Systemtechnik. Standard RAM configurations range from 256MB to 512MB DDR2 RAM, with optional upgrades to as much as 2GB. Flash starts at 256MB, with upgrades to 2GB. The system is said to include a CF-card slot that can handle 4GB flash cards, and it offers a built-in, shock-mounted 20GB 2.5-inch hard drive (also upgradeable). There's also PC 104 expansion.

Unidat 6.5-inch Terminal, wall-mounted

The 6.5-inch touchscreen provides 640x480 VGA resolution, say the company, and there's a built-in programmable numeric keyboard. Standard I/O includes a 10/100 Ethernet connection, two USB ports, two serial ports, and a parallel port. I/O options include WiFi, IrDA, PCMCIA, FireWire, digital I/O, and additional Ethernet and parallel ports.

The fanless, aluminum-encased system measures 7.1 x 8.7 x 2.8 inches and weighs 7.7 pounds. It offers standard resistance to temperatures ranging from 32 to 140 degrees F, with an option extending that to -22 to 158 degrees.

Specifications for the Unidat 6.5-inch Terminal include:
  • Processor -- 400 to 650MHz RISC or CISC CPU, upgradable to 1.5GHz
  • Memory -- 256MB to 512MB DDR2 RAM, upgradable to 2GB; 256MB internal flash, upgradeable to 2GB
  • Flash expansion -- 1 x slot supporting up to 4GB CF cards
  • Storage -- 20GB 2.5-inch, shock-mounted hard drive (upgradable)
  • Expansion -- 1 x PC 104 slot
  • Display -- 6.5-inch touchscreen 640 x 480 VGA (supports up to 1024 x 768 external)
  • Keyboard -- 4 x 5-inch numeric keypad; attachments for optional keyboard and mouse
  • Networking -- 1 x 10/100 Ethernet (WiFi and additional LAN ports optional)
  • USB -- 2 x USB
  • Serial -- 2 x serial ports (RS232 and RS232/RS422/RS485)
  • Parallel -- 1 x parallel port (ECP/EPP-compatible, with options for additional)
  • Other I/O options -- IrDA, PCMCIA, FireWire, digital I/O
  • Boot sources -- LAN, USB, hard drive, CF-Card
  • Dimensions -- 7.1 x 8.7 x 2.8 inches (180 x 220 x 70mm)
  • Weight -- 7.7 lbs (3.5kg)
  • Temperature resistance -- 32 to 140 degrees F (0 to 60 degrees C); option for -22 to 158 degrees F (-30 to 70 degrees C)
  • Vibration resistance -- IEC 68-2
  • Casing -- Aluminum casing; optional IP67 protection against dust, water
  • Power supply -- AC 90V (DC version 240V)
  • Operating system -- Supports Windows CE, XP Embedded, XP, NT, 2000; also supports BTO embedded Linux with hard RT option
