Vehicle-mount Windows CE computers enjoy cold weather

LXE Inc. has introduced a pair of rugged vehicle-mount computers -- the "half-screen" VX6 and the "full-screen" VX7. Both units are powered by Intel XScale processors running Microsoft's Windows CE 4.2 embedded operating system. The devices are aimed at supply chain applications and offer optional heating, making them ideal for cold environments either outdoors or within freezers, LXE says.

According to LXE, the similarity of the VX6 (shown at right -- click to enlarge) and the VX7 (shown above) to each other enables running the same Windows CE based applications on both handheld and vehicle-mount computers, thereby reducing training and support costs. LXE says the integrated keyboard on the half-screen VX6 makes that device ideal for mounting on fork trucks, whose drivers appreciate the close proximity of the keyboard and screen.

The devices also support LXE's RFTerm multi-session terminal emulator, which simplifies the migration of legacy applications to a Windows CE GUI or browser-based system environment, LXE says.
