| Industrial computers work up to 167 deg. F |
Aug. 18, 2008
Moxa has announced a pair of Windows CE-based PCs that operate in harsh industrial environments up to 167 deg. F. The IA-261-1-T and IA-261-2T offer dual Ethernet ports, dual CANbus ports, eight digital I/O channels, and CompactFlash storage, according to the company.

Designed to form part of a factory automation system, the IA-261-1-T and IA-261-2-T measure just 6 x 4.5 x 2.4 inches, and may be mounted either on a DIN rail or directly on a wall. The devices each offer dual 10/100 Ethernet ports, dual USB 2.0 ports, eight digital input channels, and eight digital outputs.
Unlike many similar systems, the devices also include VGA outputs. This makes them suitable for SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) systems that require HMI (human machine interface) features, says Moxa.
The IA-261-I-T and IA-262-2-T differ only in that the former includes four RS232/422/485 serial ports, whereas the latter has two serial ports and two CANbus ports. An array of LEDs monitors the status of the serial and CANbus ports, as well as the two Ethernet interfaces, says Moxa.
Both IA-261-x-T systems apparently run fanlessly, and can do so at temperatures ranging from -20 to 80 deg. C in standard models, or -40 to 85 deg. C (approximately 167 deg. F) in available "wide temperature" variants. Their hardy CPU is Cirrus Logic's ARM9-based EP9315, clocked at 200 MHz.
The devices come with 128MB or 256MB of RAM, and 32MB of onboard flash storage, according to the company. If more storage is required, it can be added via a CompactFlash slot.
The computers also have redundant power inputs, featuring a power jack and three-pin terminal block that both support 12VDC to 48VDC power input. Consumption, at 12VDC, is rated at just 783 mA with no load on the USB ports, or 1.2 Amps with both ports loaded.
The IA-261-x-T systems feature built-in watchdog timers, realtime clocks, and alert buzzers. They also have reset buttons supporting a "reset to factory default" feature, says Moxa.
Finally, both computers come with a preloaded Windows CE 6.0 image that boasts a telnet server for remote installation, an FTP server, an httpd-based web server, and dial-up networking. Moxa's SDK (software development kit) is said to allow programming the devices using .NET Compact Framework 2.0.
