Verizon to offer Samsung SCH-i730 Pocket PC phone in July

Verizon Wireless and Samsung Electronics have co-announced the SCH-i730 Pocket PC phone, which Verizon will begin offering to subscribers in early July. This is Samsung's first PDA phone with support for the EV-DO protocol and built-in WiFi capabilities, and its first with a miniature QWERTY keyboard.

Providing both CDMA 850 and CDMA 1900 modes of operation, the SCH i730 features Microsoft's Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition for Pocket PCs, and it contains a 520 MHz Intel PXA272 microprocessor, 128 MB of flash memory, 64 MB of DRAM, and an SDIO memory expansion card slot. Other features include support for "certain Bluetooth profiles," BlackBerry email support, "advanced" voice recognition, MP3 player, 3D audio equalizer, and 3D stereo speakers. Its 2.8-inch-diagonal, 240 x 320-pixel LCD touch screen provides up to 65,000 colors.

This new compact Pocket PC phone has what Peter Skarzynski, senior vice president at Samsung, calls an "innovative" form-factor. It measures 5.2 x 2.28 x 0.6 inches, weighs 5.5 ounces, and comes equipped with a 1000 mAh LiIon battery.

Comprehensive Windows Mobile support -- Pocket MSN Messenger, Microsoft Reader 2.0 for Pocket PC, Windows Media Player 10, Microsoft Pictures, and ActiveSync
Personal Information Manager (PIM) Backup Application
Integrated speakerphone
Call Management –- Caller ID, voice mail, call forwarding, call waiting and call logs
Wireless Sync, Verizon Wireless' VZEmail solution

Priced at $599.99 with a two-year customer agreement, the SCHi730 will be available to retail customers on July 7 at Verizon Wireless Communications stores, according to Verizon.
