Kontron is shipping a CompactPCI (CPCI) board with Intel's 2.5GHz Core 2 Duo T9400. Targeting telecom/datacom applications, the Windows-compatible Kontron CP6016 offers up to 16GB of RAM, five gigabit Ethernet ports, six SATA II ports, and a PMC/XMC (PCI Mezzanine Card/Switched Mezzanine Card) site, says Kontron.

The CP6016 is a good fit for secure, high-performance communications, says Kontron, thanks to an IPMI (Intelligent Platform Management Interface) for high-availability (HA) out-of-band communications, as well as an onboard Trusted Platform Module (TPM 1.2). Designed to support "densely packed, thermally constrained CompactPCI systems," the board uses Intel's 45nm-fabricated "Penryn" Core 2 Duo T9400.
The T9400 provides the device with energy consumption (45-65 Watts) claimed to be similar to Kontron's previously released CPCI boards based on the 65nm Core 2 Duo T7500. Yet at the same time, the processor offers up to 25 percent faster core speeds, 50 percent more L2 cache (6MB), and a 60 percent faster FSB (1066MHz), according to Kontron.

The CP6016 is said to support up to 16GB of DDR2 ECC SO-RDIMM memory, as well as up to 8GB NAND flash via USB. Interfaces include five gigabit Ethernet ports connected via PCI Express, as well as seven USB 2.0 ports, and two serial ports. The board offers six SATA ports with RAID 0/1/5 functionality, one of which can be used for an onboard 2.5 inch hard drive.
The CP6016 also includes an expansion site that supports either PMC or XMC modules. If PMC is used, a 64-bit 133MHz PCI slot is available. Alternatively, XMC provides eight PCI Express lanes, says Kontron.
