Demo's showcase embedded bridge/controller chips

Bridge and controller chip-vendor QuickLogic is demonstrating several reference designs powered by Windows CE, at CES this week in Las Vegas. The demos include a smartphone reference platform with a TV-out subsystem, and a development kit used for designing devices based on the Marvell (formerly Intel) PXA270 embedded processor, among others.

QuickLogic specializes in I/O companion chips for embedded processors such as Marvell's (formerly Intel's) PXA270. Its chips are based on tiny, ultra-low-power FPGAs (field-programmable gate arrays), and often offer user programmability. The chips can be used to easily add hard drives and peripherals without greatly increasing the power budget, the company claims.

QuickLogic's Windows CE-based CES demo's, according to the company, include:

Smartphone Reference Platform -- incorporates high performance CE-ATA and SDIO host controllers for the Marvell PXA3xx application processors, including TV-out with XY swap capability to switch between landscape and portrait displays; both NTSC and PAL displays are supported with active frame-rate control management
"Mainstone" PXA270 development kit demonstration with wireless LAN, PCI and IDE -- QuickLogic's companion chip communicates between the Marvell PXA270 processor, a WLAN module, and a HDD.

QuickLogic also recently shipped an Eclipse II line of tiny FPGAs optimized for low power consumption.
