VersaLogic is shipping a new EBX format single-board computer (SBC) based on a Geode LX-800 processor. The RoHS-compliant "Python" SBC offers the equivalent of 800 MHz processing performance, supports reliable fanless operation, and integrates a substantial complement of onboard functions and interfaces, according to the company.

The Python is based on an Geode LX-800 processor (which dissipates less than 12W) along with an AMD Geode CS5536 chipset, and has a field-upgradeable embedded BIOS. The board supports up to 1 GB of DDR RAM, and provides four USB 2.0 ports, dual 10/100 Mbps Ethernet channels, four serial ports (two RS-232, two RS-422/485), analog- and digital-output graphics, AC97 stereo sound, and a CompactFlash socket. Other features, according to the company, include:- ATA-5, UDMA66 IDE interface
- LPT parallel port supporting EPP, ECP, and SPP
- 32 lines of TTL-level digital I/O
- 8-channel, 12-bit analog input port
- Three PMW outputs and tachometer inputs
- Keyboard and mouse ports
As per the EBX specification, the Python has a PC/104-Plus expansion site, which accepts a stack of PC/104 and/or PC/104-Plus modules. In addition, however, it also contains VersaLogic's proprietary SPX expansion interface, which the company touts as "an inexpensive solution for additional I/O including analog, digital, CANbus, relay switching, and more."
The new EBX SBC is compatible with Windows CE, Windows XP Embedded, QNX, VxWorks, and Linux, the company said.
The Python is available from stock. Pricing is as low as $630 in production quantities.
