Panel PCs support PoE, Windows CE
May 07, 2008

Contendo Systems GmBH has announced two flat-panel PCs that run Windows CE and can use PoE (power over Ethernet). The ITP-070 and ITP-104 feature touchscreen displays, microSD storage, sealed aluminum cases, and Marvell PXA270 or PXA320 processors running at up to 806MHz, says Contendo.

The ITP-070 and ITP-104 have few differences other than screensize, and overall size and weight. The 1.9-pound ITP-070 has a seven-inch touchscreen display with 800 x 480 resolution, while the 3.7-pound ITP-104 has a 10.4-inch display with 800 x 600 resolution. Both accept VESA mounting hardware and support either portrait or landscape operation. The ITP-104 can use an optional desktop stand (shown below).

Contendo's ITP-104 can be stand-mounted

Both the ITP-070 and ITP-104 are fanless devices that come in sealed aluminum cases, without ventilation holes. This makes them waterproof to the IP65 standard, according to the company.

A relatively uncommon attribute of these devices is their ability to be powered via an Ethernet cable, using PoE-compatible hubs or routers. They can also accept input power separately, from 18VDC to 30VDC in the case of the ITP-070, and 8VDC to 16VDC in the case of the ITP-104.

The panel PCs use Marvell's PXA270 or PXA320 processors, both orderable in 312MHz, 520MHz, and 806MHz clock speeds. PXA270-equipped models come with 64MB of RAM and 32MB of flash storage. PXA320-equipped models include 128MB of RAM and 64MB of flash. All accept up to 4GB of added storage via a microSD expansion slot.

THe ITP-070 and ITP-104 have 10/100 Ethernet ports, two USB 1.1 ports, two RS232 serial ports, and jacks for audio line in and line out. In the future, says Contendo, a CAN interface and multi-function GPIOs will also be available.

Other options for the devices include 802.11b/g wireless networking, Bluetooth, an embedded infrared motion sensor, and an embedded speaker and microphone.

Features and specifications listed by Contendo for the ITP-070 and ITP-104 include:
  • Processor -- Marvell PXA270 or PXA320, clocked at 312MHz, 520MHz, or 806MHz

The ITP-070 and ITP-104 can also run Linux, according to Contendo Systems. The company did not provide pricing information, but the systems appear to be available now.
