| Mobile app suite gains IM, presence features |
Mar. 01, 2007
iAnywhere Solutions has added instant messaging (IM) and presence capabilities its software suite that targets enterprises with mobile workforces. The Information Anywhere application suite's new functionality extends enterprise email systems and IM platforms across the "broadest range" of mobile devices, the company claims.
iAnywhere's Information Anywhere suite comprises a family of mobile email, collaboration, device management, enterprise-to-edge security, and back-office application extension capabilities, according to the company. It features "comprehensive cross-platform support" for Windows Mobile, Palm, RIM BlackBerry, and Symbian mobile devices, the company says.
As a result of the update, the Information Anywhere suite now offers access to multiple IM systems from within a single client, and includes support for various leading enterprise-class instant messengers. These include IBM Lotus Sametime, Jabber XCP, Jabber Wildfire, Microsoft Live Communications Server, and Reuters Messaging, the company says. Public networks based on XMPP, such as Google Talk and Jabber, are also supported.
The client can transmit and receive extended presence information, including online, busy, away, and not available states, iAnywhere says. Custom notifications and alerts -- both audio and vibration -- can be set up for new inbound messages. The client can also display a message history with timestamps, the company says.
A combination of wizards and an intuitive user interface make setup and deployment of the IM and presence client easy, according to iAnywhere. The system also provides logging and routing capabilities, to ensure compliance with corporate auditing policies, and it is compatible with IM security and management software such as Akonix, FaceTime, and IMLogic.
iAnywhere vice president Mark Willnerd stated, "Sybase iAnywhere addresses the rapidly growing enterprise IM medium by enabling businesses to ensure that their mobile workers have the same ability to communicate in real-time as if they were in the office. Now users in the field can easily determine if their co-workers are online and available. Additionally, we give enterprises the tools to easily manage and secure mobile communications wherever their employees may be."
The mobile IM and presence technology is expected to be available in the second quarter, according to iAnywhere. Additional information is available on the company's website, here. A 30-day free trial version can be "pre-requested" here.
iAnywhere Solutions Inc. is a subsidiary of Sybase.
