Phone features GPS, simulates background noise

Gigabyte Communications has introduced a Windows Mobile 6 Professional based phone that includes GPS and automatic geotagging of photos. The Gsmart i350 also includes a "Wise Talk" feature that can simulate various types of background noise during a call, according to the company.

The "Wise Talk" facility has been featured on several Gigabyte phones, such as last year's Gsmart i120. Developed in-house, it adds preset background noise such as "airport," "concert," or "meeting room" to calls in order to camouflage a user's actual location, Gigabyte says.

A more standard feature on the i350 is the phone's GPS capabilities, based on the SIRF starIII chipset and incorporating Garmin Mobile XT software. Users can take photos using the device's auto-focus two megapixel camera, and they'll be automatically geotagged with their location, according to the company. It's said that via file formats such as .KMZ and .GPX, a photographer's journey can then be tracked using applications such as Google Earth.

As for its bread-and-butter capabilities, the i350 is a quad-band GSM 850/900/1800/1900 device that also includes Bluetooth 2.0 and 802.11b/g wireless networking. It has a 2.6-inch 640 x 480 touchscreen display, according to Gigabyte.

The device uses a Marvell PXA270 processor clocked at 520MHz, and features 64MB of RAM and 256MB of Flash. Storage may be expanded via a miniSD slot, which Gigabyte says is SDHC-compatible for maximum capacity.

The Gsmart i350 also includes the audio and video playback capabilities provided by Windows Mobile 6 Professional, along with the operating system's ability to view and edit Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents. Push email and Windows Live Messenger are included as well.
