Microsoft names North American embedded partners of the year
May 11, 2005

Microsoft has announced the winners of this year's Windows Embedded North American Partner of the Year awards at the Windows Mobile & Embedded DevCon (MEDC) 2005. The Windows Embedded Partner of the Year awards were created to highlight the work of Microsoft industry partners in the embedded marketplace, according to the company.

The winners in each category for work with the Windows CE and Windows XP Embedded platforms are as follows:
  • Independent Hardware Vendor -- ICOP Technology. ICOP is a provider of board support packages (BSPs) for DOS, Windows CE, Windows NT Embedded, and Windows XP Embedded. ICOP was recognized for its quick migration to Windows CE 5.0 in 2005. ICOP has already shipped Windows Mobile 5.0 BSPs for several of its boards, including the eBox-II.

  • Independent Software Vendor -- TenAsys. Microsoft recognized TenAsys for "tireless enthusiasm, commitment, and interest in moving the Windows Embedded market forward." The company sponsored two key industry events, has been a strong participant in several Microsoft programs, and is actively engaged with individual marketing, press activities, product launches, and other industry news, according to Microsoft. TenAsys offers a real-time extension for Windows XP Embedded.

  • Original Equipment Manufacturer -- Symbol Technologies. Symbol was cited for its "demonstrated industry leadership and ability to develop, market, and sell a strong line of Windows Embedded devices and solutions." Symbol's ruggedized devices, including the MC3000 introduced earlier this year, are a "proven competitive advantage for some of the world's leading companies," helping to increase work-force productivity, reduce operating costs, and drive other process efficiencies.

  • Silicon Vendor -- Intel. Intel "engages strongly with Windows Embedded across multiple market segments," notes Microsoft. The company's XScale architecture is one of the leading platforms for Windows CE in the mobile device, Voice over IP (VoIP), home networking, and storage areas. Its embedded x86 products are strong in the consumer electronics, thin client, and point-of-sale (POS) market segments.

  • Systems Integrator -- Applied Data Systems. ADS "led all mobile and embedded industry partners in service engagements and labor hours for 2005 by a substantial amount" in both platform categories, according to Microsoft. During 2004, ADS was actively engaged in Microsoft Embedded events and marketing activities, and assisted business intelligence efforts with up-to-date reporting and other timely participation. ADS also supplies single board computers with Windows CE support.
Interestingly, TenAsys, Intel, and ADS were also winners in last year's Partner of the Year awards.

"Microsoft is proud to recognize our Windows Embedded Partners for making an impact on the embedded industry," said Jane Gilson, director of the Mobile and Embedded Devices Division at Microsoft. "Our partners not only are an integral part of our business, they also provide the differentiation and innovation that makes Windows Embedded the most useful and functional platform for end customers."
