| Compact PC aims to serve retail, hospitality needs |

 Belview Technologies has introduced a compact, PC-compatible system targeting POS (point-of-sales/service), hospitality, kiosk, and industrial applications. The SP4800 is based on Intel processors and Via chipsets, is available with a cash drawer, and supports Microsoft's retail-oriented WEPOS (Windows Embedded for Point of Service) OS.

The SP4800 makes extensive use of Via chipsets, including the P4M890 northbridge and VT 8237R southbridge.
According to Via and Belview, the Via P4M890 provides a UniChrome Pro IGP graphics core, which offers a 200 MHz 2D/3D graphics engine, with dedicated 128-bit data paths for pixel data flow and texture/command access. The chipset also supports standard TV and HDTV outputs, although Belview's implementation only provides VGA output.
Belview says the SP4800 can support a variety of Intel processors. These include Intel's LGA775 Conroe, the Core 2 Duo E series clocked at up to 3 GHz, and the socket 775-based Celeron and Pentium 4 CPUs.

The SP4800 accepts 240-pin DIMM memory modules, with DDR2 memory running at 667, 533, or 400 GHz. Mass storage for the device includes an IDE or SATA hard drive storing 40 GB or higher, plus an optional 3.5-inch floppy drive and CD or DVD-ROM, according to Belview.

According to Belview, the system is being offered in a bundle that includes a 15-inch touchscreen monitor, cash drawer, Epson/Star receipt printer, and Windows Embedded for Point of Service (WEPOS). The system, which appears to be available now, can also be supplied with Windows XP or Windows 2000.
