Dresser Wayne is showcasing its new Windows CE-powered gas pump at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week. In addition to dispensing fuel, the Ovation iX lets customers buy a cup of coffee, download MP3s, or check traffic conditions without ever leaving the pump, according to the company.

The Ovation iX is built on what Dresser calls the only open architecture platform in the retail fuel dispensing industry. The iX Technology Platform incorporates the following modular extended features:

iSense -- self-diagnostic software that allows the retailer to diagnose and troubleshoot potential site equipment problems before they occur and allows for off-site, real time monitoring of tank levels and flow rates. iSense also automatically downloads firmware updates.
iX Media -- lets customers watch full-motion, site-specific video commercials on the dispenser-integrated 10.4-inch color VGA display, with built-in speaker. Fuel customers can print customized coupons at the dispenser for in-store specials and other retail promotions.
iDPOS -- point of sale function that independently manages transactions and credit card sales at the dispenser, even if the in-store POS is off-line. Stores credit card transactions for up to 14 days.

Dresser Wayne says it partnered with Bsquare throughout development of the iX Technology Platform.
