Daewoo rolls out UMPC

Lucoms, a subsidiary of Korean electronics maker Daewoo, has released its first entry in the budding UMPC (ultra mobile PC) market. The Solo M1 exhibits features and specs similar to its Korean cousin, the Samsung Q1, released in May.

Like the Q1, the Solo M1 runs Windows XP Tablet PC Edition on a 900 MHz ULV Celeron M processor with 512 MB of RAM. However, the device's built-in 1.8-inch hard drive is limited to 30 GB, whereas the Q1 offers a choice of either 40 or 60 GB. On the other hand, the M1 sports a 1.3 Mpixel camera, a feature the Q1 lacks.

Specs gleened from the company's primarily Korean-language website include:

Processor -- ULV Celeron M 353 at 900 MHz
Chipset -- 915GMS + ICH6-M
Memory -- 512 MB DDR2 400 SODIMM; expansion not specified
Display -- 7-inch wide VGA (WVGA) TFT LCD with touchscreen; exact resolution unspecified
I/O ports:
- On device:
  - 1 USB 2.0
  - built-in speaker and microphone
  - headphone and microphone jacks
- On docking port:
  - 10/100 RJ45 Ethernet
  - 4 USB 2.0
  - VGA and S-video out
Expansion -- "4-in-1" card reader, MMC/SDIO/MS/MS Pro
Camera -- 1.3 Mpixel CMOS
Wireless:
- 802.11b/g WiFi
- Bluetooth v1.1 and v1.2
Dimensions -- 8.86 x 5.67 x 0.98 inches (225 x 144 x 25 mm)

No word from Lucoms on price or availability, but other sources report a retail price in the range of $1,050 (Engadget), and that the device is only available in Korea (UMPCNews).
