[Updated Sep. 14, 2004] -- Mobile phone users in North America have a new choice in Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 based Smartphones, starting today. The Sierra Wireless "Voq Professional Phone" is now available at various reseller locations, with activation on the AT&T Wireless network.

Among the resellers offering Voq are members of Intel's Product Dealer (IPD) program. According to Sierra Wireless, Intel Product Dealers are active resellers of Intel products who have access to marketing resources, enhanced technical support, and superior training options offered by Intel. Through the IPD program, CellStar Corporation will distribute the Voq Phone to channel partners nationwide including TigerDirect and Tech Depot.

Sierra Wireless describes the Voq Professional Phone as a "new class of mobile phone that offers customers the best features of a mobile phone, a personal messaging device, and a PDA." Key features of the Voq are said to include:

Flip-open QWERTY thumbpad
"Phone-first" capabilities with the power of a PDA and ability to synchronize contacts, calendars, and tasks to a Windows-based computer;
The best features of a mobile phone, messaging device, and PDA in a single phone -- resulting in lower cost, ease-of-use, and the need for fewer devices;
Powerful search, send and storage capabilities with myVoq, which also offers the ability to enhance business applications and mobile web services,
Out-of-the-box personal and corporate email solutions, including POP3, IMAP4, and Microsoft ActiveSync for wireless synchronization to Microsoft Exchange 2003,
"The ultimate email experience" with VoqMail Professional Edition, offering secure "always there" email and alerts, and supporting standard, broadly deployed VPN and business email systems including Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Notes, and Novell GroupWise software.
