| HTC phone offers GPS, Windows Mobile 6 |

 HTC has announced a Windows Mobile 6-based device it claims is one of the most compact phones in its product line. The P3470 is just 4.25 inches tall and weighs 4.3 ounces, yet features quad-band GSM connectivity, a 2.8-inch touchscreen display, GPS, and Bluetooth, HTC says.

The P3470 uses TI's OMAP850 processor, clocked at 201MHz. It has 128MB of RAM and 256MB of flash storage, which can be expanded using the device's microSD slot. As for the touchscreen display, this is pretty much standard fare, with 2.8-inch diagonal size and QVGA (320 x 240) resolution.
The device has quad-band (850, 900, 1800, 1900) GSM telephony only, aimed at European customers. Other wireless features include Bluetooth, though not WiFi, and GPS provided by SiRF's ubiquitous starIII chipset. TomTom Navigator mapping software is included with the phone, HTC says.
Unlike some of HTC's more ambitious efforts, the P3470 does not offer the company's TouchFLO user interface, touted as providing easy finger-touch access to -- and scrolling of -- web pages, documents, messages, and contact lists. Instead, the phone comes with "Live HTC Home," which appears to offer a relatively modest facelift to the standard Windows Mobile 6 user interface. The phone's "smart navigation wheel" makes it easy to navigate through applications or zoom in and out on maps, according to HTC.

Availability
According to HTC, the P3470 costs 449 Euros and will be available across Europe later this month. The first pan-European operator partner to take the device will be Orange, which will launch it in the UK, France, Spain, and the Netherlands.
