High-integration PC/104 SBC runs Windows Embedded

Win Enterprises has joined the ranks of board vendors offering PC/104-format CPU modules based on AMD's x86-compatible Geode LX800 processor. The highly-integrated MB-07303 is based on a 500MHz LX800, and packs a CRT/LCD video controller, up to 1GB RAM, and a long list of PC-style I/O.

According to the company, the MB-07303's 11-Watt power consumption is sufficiently low to enable fanless operation over a wide temperature range. Typical applications are expected to include telecom, networking, and industrial control systems and devices.

Key features and specifications of the MB-07303, as listed by the company, include:

Processor -- AMD Geode LX800, clocked at 500 MHz
Memory -- socket for up to 1GB of onboard DDR RAM
Display controller:
- up to 1920 x 1440 pixels at 32 bit color depth
- supports dual-simultaneous-display operation (at lower resolutions)
Other input/output interfaces:
- dual 10/100Mbbps Ethernet
- 2 x serial ports
- 4 x USB 2.0 ports
- PS/2 keyboard/mouse port
- bidirectional parallel port
- IrDA 1.0 compliant IR interface, supports 115.2 Kbits/sec
- Ultra ATA-66 interface
- AC 97 Audio (optional)
CompactFlash Type I/II socket
Dimensions -- 3.8 x 4.6 inches
Expansion bus -- self-stacking PC/104-Plus modules (PCI and ISA buses)
Power consumption -- "just 11 Watts"

From the photos supplied by the company, it is evident that the MB-07303 PCB's (printed circuit board) irregular shape does not strictly conform to the dimensions defined by the PC/104 Consortium's PC/104-Plus specification. However, the module appears to be sufficiently close to standard PC/104 format to enable its use in many, if not most, applications requiring PC/104 form-factor compatibility.

On the software side, the module has been tested for compatibility with Windows XP Embedded, Windows CE, and Linux, a Win Enterprises spokesperson said.

The MB-07303 appears to be immediately available. Pricing was not disclosed.
