| Compact, highly integrated XScale SBC runs Windows CE |

 Above-Net, a maker of mobile terminals, will introduce a compact XScale-based single-board computer (SBC) at the Embedded Systems Conference in San Jose, Calif. next week. The TopSBC supports Windows CE 5.0 and targets applications such as handheld mobile terminals, POS devices, kiosks, ATMs, and telematics applications, according to the company.

The TopSBC incorporates a 600 MHz Intel PXA270 processor, and is equipped with 64 or 128 MB of SDRAM and 32 or 64 MB of on-board flash memory. It can drive LCDs and CRT monitors at up to 1024 x 768 resolution, and offers both PAL and NTSC video inputs and outputs. The board also boasts a 100 megabit Ethernet MAC, a large number of input/output ports, and two Type II PCMCIA slots, among other built-in functions.

Above-Net says the TopSBC has already been used internally within the company's mobile and handheld products such as the TopAuto in-vehicle computer. The card was designed to Above-Net's specification by Advanced Data Systems (ADS), which manufactures various standard and custom XScale-based SBCs and is a Gold-level member of Microsoft's Windows Embedded Partner program.
In addition to supporting Windows CE 5.0, the TopSBC also supports embedded Linux, Above-Net says.
TopSBC is available for immediate evaluation and is expected to be in full production during second quarter, according to the company. Pricing was not disclosed.
