Cingular will begin offering HP's Windows Mobile-based iPAQ 6900 series PDA/phones in the U.S. beginning Oct. 31. The hw6920 and hw6925 feature a QWERTY keypad with push-email support, built-in GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, and IR, and support Cingular's nationwide GSM/GPRS/EDGE wireless data network, according to HP.

The hw6920 and hw6925 are identical except for the inclusion of a 1.3 Mpixel camera in the latter model.

The hw6920/25's built-in GPS receiver will be supported by TeleNav GPS Navigator, Cingular's first generally available, location-based service. GPS Navigator provides turn-by-turn voice and on-screen directions, and offers info on some 10 million points of interest, among other features. Other GPS navigation applications are also supported on the device, including Microsoft's Pocket Streets and HP's Navigation Maps and Software, HP says.

Additionally, the hw6920 and hw6925 include the Messaging and Security Feature Pack for Windows Mobile 5.0, which works in conjunction with an Exchange server to provide data-push services including email, PIM data (calendar, tasks, contacts), and additional security-oriented features such as "remote device wipe, remotely enforced IT policy, and S/MIME support."

Camera (hw6925 only) -- 1.3 Mpixel CMOS; captures photos and video; includes an LED light and self-portrait mirror
Audio -- voice recording, built-in speakerphone, microphone, stereo headphone/microphone jack
Other interfaces -- USB 1.1 client; RS232
Battery -- removable/replaceable 1200 mAh Lithium-ion
Dimensions -- 4.7 x 2.8 x 0.7 inches (118 x 71 x 18 mm)
Weight -- 6.3 oz (180 g) with battery; 5.3 oz (150 g) without battery
Operating system -- Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 software for Pocket PC, Phone Edition, with Messaging and Security Feature Pack

Availability

The iPAQ hw6920 and hw6925 devices will be priced around $350, in conjunction with various Cingular voice and data plans, according to HP. The optional TeleNav GPS Navigator service will involve an additional monthly charge. Further details are available on from either HP or Cingular.
