Samsung's UF-130DX is a digital reinvention of the old-fashioned overhead projector. Measuring 19.8 x 19.2 x 15.9 inches when in use -- it also folds for storage -- the device includes a 1.3 megapixel camera that outputs still images or 720p (1280 x 720 pixel) video at up to 30 frames per second. Its circular surface and built-in LED lighting allow small 3D objects to be displayed (right), while the camera's optical 14X zoom is said to permit clear display of even tiny documents.
Beyond that, the UF-130DX is also a full-fledged computer running Windows CE. The device's processor and memory complement are undisclosed, but we would not be surprised to find one of Samsung's own ARM-based SoCs on board, for example the S3C2440. According to Samsung, the UF-130DX offers web browsing via Internet Explorer, viewers for PowerPoint files and other Microsoft office documents, and an RDP (remote desktop protocol) client for accessing remote computers. Via an optional, pen-shaped mouse, presenters can annotate whatever image is currently displayed on screen, the company says.
The UF-130DX includes both VGA and DVI-D video outputs, plus a VGA input that can pass signals through from an external laptop or other device. Via these connectors, the device is claimed capable of displaying Windows CE applications on one monitor, while sending live output from its camera to another. Alternatively, a picture-in-picture function allows live video to be combined with the Windows display on a single monitor, according to Samsung.
The UF-130DX folds for carrying As the above photo of the UF-130DX folded up for carrying shows, the device's ports follow the curvature of its outer edge. From left to right, they include an RJ45 Ethernet port, speaker/headphone output, an RS232 port, two USB host ports, an SD card reader, the three video connectors already mentioned, plus a USB client port.
Accessories bundled with the device include a remote control, carrying bag, and a 12VDC power adapter.
