Seven-inch tablet runs Windows CE
Oct. 29, 2008

Chinese OEM BF Evergreen has announced a 21-ounce tablet PC that runs Windows CE 5.0. The "7010A" includes a 400MHz Samsung processor, a seven-inch display with 800 x 480 resolution, 128MB of RAM, 1GB of flash storage, and an SD expansion slot, according to the company.

BF Evergreen's 7010A has many features and specifications that are reminiscent of Albatron's Tee PC, another Windows CE tablet that was introduced in August, though the devices are not identical twins. Like the Tee PC, the 7010A is said to include a seven-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels.

According to BF Evergreen, its new tablet runs Windows CE 5.0 on a 400MHz Samsung S3C2440A processor, supported with 128MB of RAM, 1GB of flash storage, and a SD expansion slot. The photograph at the top of our story suggests that the device may also be equipped with a webcam, but one is not listed in the company's specifications.

Connectivity is described as being via an "Internet socket," which we presume means an RJ45 Ethernet port. The 7010A has a USB 1.1 port, plus a 2600mAh battery, says BF Evergreen.

Though they're unspecified, the tablet also apparently has a microphone and speakers, or at least a headphone output, since it is claimed to support the Skype VoIP client and Windows Media Player. The 7010A also ships with Pocket Nester, an open-source emulator that reportedly lets Windows CE devices run some video games designed for Nintendo's NES/Famicom handhelds.

Features and specifications cited by BF Evergreen for the 7010A include:
  • Processor -- Samsung S3C 2440A clocked at 400MHz
  • Memory -- 128MB of RAM (maximum expansion capability not cited) and 1GB of flash
  • Storage -- Flash, as above, plus SD expansion slot
  • Display -- 7-inch touchscreen with 800 x 480 resolution
  • Networking -- "Internet socket"
  • Other I/O -- USB 1.1, plus presumed audio I/O
  • Power supply -- 2600mAh battery, and AC adapter supplying 5VDC
  • Dimensions -- 8.26 x 5.82 x 1.03 inches (210 x 148 x 26.3mm)
  • Weight, with battery -- 21.6 inches (600g)
Interestingly, BF Evergreen's website also lists the 7000A, a "low-cost laptop" that shares the 7010A's hardware and software specifications, but supplements the "Internet socket" with built-in WiFi. Although it's hard to be certain from the company's tiny picture, the 7000A appears to be the same device that previously shipped -- with added memory, and a slight clock speed bump -- from U.K. retailer Robert Dyas as the Cuol Book. For more details, see our earlier coverage, here.

Availability

BF Evergreen did not release pricing or availability information for the 7010A. More information about the 7010A may appear on the company's website, here, and about the 7000A, here.
