"Smallest and lightest" portable PC runs Windows CE 5.0

Quebec-based Clearview Technology has announced a Windows CE 5.0-based device it's positioning as the world's "smallest and lightest portable PC." The 5.7 x 3.3 x 1.2 inch Infinity miPC resembles a portable media player with optional Bluetooth keyboard, and boasts "unprecedented battery life," Clearview claims.

The miPC is equipped with a 4.3-inch touchscreen display with 480 x 270 pixel resolution. However, downsampling capabilities enabling it to render high-definition 720p video at 30fps, Clearview claims.

Battery life is claimed to approach 20 hours, or seven hours when watching video or 13 hours listening to music. The miPC has a 1.8-inch, 30GB hard disk drive for mass storage.

The miPC's processor is an RMI Alchemy AU1250 clocked at 600MHz, and backed by 128MB of DD2 RAM and 32MB of NOR flash memory. I/O includes wired and wireless Ethernet, stereo I/O, USB, and TV-out via an included A/V cable.

Additional hardware features include a 1.3 megapixel camera with flash, optional USB dongles for Bluetooth, FM radio, and TV reception, and an optional in-car cradle with integrated GPS receiver. The GPS cradle is claimed to bring support for Tele Atlas maps of the US and Canada, 16 million points of interest (POIs), and text-to-speech.

According to Clearview, the miPC can also capture video at resolutions up to 320 x 240 pixels,

Touted as being useful for productivity as well as entertainment, the miPC is said to offer all the functionality typically included with Windows CE 5.0 Professional, including editing of Office documents and Web browsing. It also has client software for VoIP telephony, according to Clearview.
