Windows XPe-powered digital signs gain features

Samsung has introduced a major update to its proprietary software for corporate and commercial digital signage applications based on the company's Windows XP Embedded-powered large-screen LCD and plasma display systems. MagicNet Pro lets users control content across several displays from a single computer, according to Samsung.

The upgraded "MagicNet Pro-enabled" DXn series displays run Windows XP Embedded (XPe) on an embedded computer that includes a dual-core processor along with 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of CompactFlash. Samsung says the embedded computer eliminates the need to dedicate a PC to each display.

The new MagicNet Pro software is said to feature a multi-document user interface that offers enhanced flexibility and ease-of-use. Content is created and distributed using a simple "drag-and-drop" interface. Additionally, content can be directed to any display on the network, and can be scheduled up to a month in advance, the company said.

The MagicNet Pro-enabled DXn series displays are being demonstrated at InfoCommm in Anaheim, Calif. this week. First customer deliveries are expected in August, Samsung said.
