| Sofware synchronizes Macs with Windows Mobile devices |

 Eltima Software has released software intended to synchronize Windows Mobile 5 and 6 devices with Macintosh OS X computers. SyncMate can sync contacts, calendars, folders, bookmarks, photos, music, and other content via USB, according to the company.

Like the previously released Missing Sync for Windows Mobile from Mark/Space Inc., SyncMate takes Windows Mobile content stored in Favorites, Contacts, Calendar, and Notes, then synchronizes it in both directions with the Macintosh analogs -- Bookmarks, Address Book, iCal, and Stickies.
For example, according to the company, the program's "Bookmarks" plugin synchronizes IE Favorites on the mobile device with Safari bookmarks on the Mac. Similarly, an "iCal" plugin (shown below) synchronizes appointments and events stored in the mobile device's calendar with the Macintosh's iCal application.

SyncMate is also said to include special functionality for dealing with the Mac's popular image management program, iPhoto, and its music software, iTunes. With regard to iPhoto, the software can move images to and from selected folders on each device, and, in the case of a Mac-to-mobile transfer, can automatically resize photos so they fit onto a device's screen.
For iTunes, music can be sent from specific Macintosh folders or playlists to a mobile device, or can travel from the mobile back to the Mac. iTunes and SyncMate also work with video, which can optionally be compressed into MPEG4 format as it is sent from the desktop computer to the mobile device.

Like Microsoft's Windows-based ActiveSync, SyncMate can also install applications on a Windows mobile device. New .CAB files can be dragged onto a window, after which they are sent to the mobile for installation, according to Eltima.
Finally, SyncMate has several plugins that, rather than syncing information, perform management functions on the mobile device. A SMS manager plugin allows selection of a particular SMS folder (Deleted Items, Drafts, Inbox, Outbox, Sent Items), from which messages can be read or deleted using the Macintosh.
A device information plugin, shown below, lets users view a variety of information about the connected Windows Mobile device. This can include CPU type, OS, owner's name, space details (internal storage and flash card), battery state, alarms, etc.

SyncMate, currently in version 1.0 beta, may be downloaded free from the company's Web site, here. The company provided no information about the program's ultimate selling price or when the beta might expire, however.
