The five one-hour webcasts, all of which target developers, are described as follows, by title and level of complexity:- "Developing Applications for Windows Mobile Devices" (Level 200)
- "Developing Your First Real Windows Mobile 6 Application" (Level 200)
- "Using Device Capabilities and Device Functionality" (Level 300)
- "Mobile Data Strategies and Synchronization Using SQL Server Compact, XML, and LINQ" (Level 200)
- Live from TechEd Orlando: Windows Mobile Development (Level 100)
The first of these, "Developing Applications for Windows Mobile Devices," was announced earlier in advance of its May 16 live airing. Presented by Windows Embedded evangelist Maarten Struys, a technical manager at PTS Software in the Netherlands, and Constanze Roman, a community program manager with Microsoft's Windows Mobile team, it provides an overview of development tools, demonstrates C# and Microsoft Visual Basic .NET, and familiarizes viewers with using an emulator to test applications, says Microsoft.
The second webcast, "Developing Your First Real Windows Mobile 6 Application," is presented by Jim Wilson, president of the consulting firm JW Hedgehog, Inc.. It is said to deal with issues such as "designing a user interface for small displays, adapting the user interface to different device form factors, and avoiding unnecessary battery consumption."
The third webcast, "Using Device Capabilities and Device Functionality," is again presented by Struys and Roman. It covers learning how to access Pocket Outlook from inside a managed application, how to add location awareness to an application, and how to make phone calls from within a managed application, says Microsoft.
The fourth webcast, "Mobile Data Strategies and Synchronization Using SQL Server Compact, XML, and LINQ," is presented by Wilson. It is said to focus on the considerations developers need to make when selecting and using a local device data store, and includes coverage of Language Integrated Query (LINQ) as it is implemented in the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework. Storage options covered in the webcast include both XML and Microsoft SQL Server Compact database software.
Finally, Roman, Struys, and Wilson will team up for the fifth webcast, "Windows Mobile Development." Presented live from Orlando at 10AM PDT on Jun. 4, it will revisit some of the highlights of the previous webcasts, provide interesting demos, and possibly include interviews with TechEd attendees, according to Microsoft.
