Third-party vendors line up behind Windows Mobile Treo

Following Monday's debut of the new Palm Treo running Windows Mobile 5.0, a legion of third-party software vendors announced plans to support the device, which is expected to be available early next year. Among the vendors promising support for the Windows Mobile Treo are . . .
  • AppForge -- creators of the Crossfire mobile enterprise application development platform that uses industry-standard tools allowing applications to be written once and deployed to multiple devices, regardless of operating system or network.

  • Astraware Limited -- Developer and publisher of games for Windows Mobile and Palm OS. Astraware currently supplies games bundled with Palm devices.

  • Avocent -- remotely manage servers and network equipment from a mobile device with SonicAdmin. SonicSentinel allows for users to monitor, manage, and secure all their mobile devices from a central location.

  • Epocrates -- provides clinical applications for physicians and healthcare professionals at the point of care. Epocrates Essentials mobile suite features continually updated information on drugs, diseases, and diagnostics.

  • Good Technology -- GoodLink is an SLA-backed, industry-standards-based wireless messaging software and service that provides two-way wireless synchronization of all Outlook functions; FIPS-certified security; and Zero-IT Touch with Secure OTA device and application provisioning and management.

  • Grabba International Pty Ltd -- offers a range of barcode scanners, magnetic stripe, RFID and smart card readers.

  • Handmark -- Pocket Express provides fast updates to news, sports, weather, stocks, movies, plus directory search, maps and driving directions.

  • iAnywhere Solutions -- iAnywhere powers the popular AvantGo mobile Internet service and provides mobile database, middleware, and device management applications for the enterprise.

  • Intellisync -- wireless email service and mobile platforms provide seamless synchronization, secure wireless email, device control and mobility management software connecting devices, data sources and applications.

  • MobiMate -- WorldMate Professional Edition: The business traveler's all-in-one package -- Clocks, Weather, Currencies, Itinerary Management, Flight Information, Unit conversion and more. Avaiable on both Windows Mobile and Palm OS.

  • PatientKeeper -- the PatientKeeper Platform extends existing hospital information systems to mobile devices, providing mobile applications including Clinical Results, Charge Capture, Mobile Dictation, ePrescription,Reference Library, and more.

  • Picsel Technologies -- Picsel PDF Viewer is claimed to be the first available application that allows access to full, native PDF documents directly on a handset, without the need for conversion or reformatting of content.

  • scanR -- scanR turns a Windows Mobile-based smartphone into a mobile scanner, copier and fax, enabling business professionals to scan and send documents and whiteboards wirelessly as a PDF file or fax.

  • Syware -- announced in August plans to set up a help-desk specifically for Palm OS users considering the transition to a Windows Mobile Treo using Visual CE a rapid application development platform supporting any Windows Mobile Pocket PC or Windows CE device.

  • Worldnet21 -- AnthaVPN provides secure wireless access to corporate network resources. Built on the IPSec standard, AnthaVPN works with the leading VPN gateways, handheld devices and wireless networks.
Palm has invited developers interested in developing for Palm products to visit the company's PluggedIn Program website for more information. The PluggedIn Program offers developers a wide range of technical and marketing resources to inspire new products, streamline the development process and get solutions to market quickly, according to the company.
