| App enables PC remote access/control from Pocket PCs |
May 06, 2004
Danware Data has released a new version of its NetOp remote control software that enables PCs to be accessed and controled remotely from Pocket PCs and other Windows CE-based devices. Additionally, NetOp v7.65 can now launch NetOp remote sessions from USB "thumb drives" in otherwise uninitialized PCs.
According to Danware, NetOp enables remote access and control of PCs running Windows and other operating systems, and of handheld devices running various versions of Windows CE. Users can view the remote PC's screen, control its keyboard and mouse, synchronize files, inventory its hardware and software, launch applications, or chat with someone at the remote PC -- just as though seated at that computer, the company says.
Using the latest release of NetOp, a fully configured remote access "Guest Module" can be installed in a removable media device such as a USB Flash disk thumb drive (16MB or larger), Danware says. The USB thumb drive is then inserted in any Windows PC's USB port and used as though the software is installed directly on that machine -- but without requiring any actual NetOp Guest Module installation, scripts, settings, or files to be placed on the PC. The NetOp Remote USB Guest function can then securely take control of one or more NetOp Hosts.
In addition to the new USB thumb drive support, the latest release of NetOp Remote Control adds support for running the NetOp Guest Module on devies running Windows CE 4.x, Pocket PC 2003, and Windows Mobile 2003, thereby enabling PCs to be remotely accessed and controlled from a Windows CE based device such as a Pocket PC handheld, the company says.
Danware claims that NetOp offers the most comprehensive security on the market. Besides traditional local security features such as password protection, view only mode, user notification, automatic call-back, and high levels of encryption, NetOp provides support for Windows Security Management, Authentication and Authorization, Directory Service via LDAP, RSA Security, as well as an optional NetOp Security Server that provides centralized security, administration, logging and authentication for NetOp users.
